Low competition keywords.
The goal you have, when you first start your blog is to reach as many people as you possibly can – for free. Your goal is not just to get traffic. But, you want visitors who are interested in what you’re writing about. This means you want people to search for what your blog subject and be brought to your blog post by the search engines. This should be your ideal goal.
Organic traffic
This type of traffic being brought to your site by the search engines is called “Organic traffic”. It is the best quality traffic. The reason it’s such good quality is because the visitor has actually searcheddhing for this information you’re sharing.
Better conversion
Organic traffic is of a very high quality. They are more prone to take action. They are less likely to be “tire kickers”.
As a blogger and business owner, you need to attract people that are interested in eventually taking some type of action. Your Income as a blogger actually depends on this.
Your keep control by the keywords you use
Thankfully you can control the organic traffic you generate with your keywords. If your keywords are vague and general, your visitors may be also.
For example, you might be reviewing a product that strengthens and defines the ab muscles and reduces belly fat. If that is what your site is about, then you need to show this in your keywords. Although general words like “exercise” and “fat loss” would cover this, they wouldn’t attract the same targeted audience that “ab exercise” and “loose belly fat” would.
When to use Long Tail Keywords
Especially when you are beginning, you need to go for the long tail keywords. Long tail keywords are more specific. The big authority sites my not use them because they don’t pull in as many visitors. So you don’t have as much competition for these words.
“Reduce Belly Fat” will have many searches. This is mainly because there are many who will type this phrase in exactly. And there are many more who will include this phrase in another statement.
What diet will help me reduce belly fat
What exercise can reduce belly fat
Why do I need to reduce belly fat
(We could continue, but I think you get the point).
Because this phrase is able to be used so many different ways, it will receive a lot of results.
As a new blogger, if you use keywords like this, that are highly competitive, you may not rank high enough in the search results.
When you’re the new kid on the block, you need to go for more detailed keywords. For example “How can I reduce my belly fat” is a long tale keyword. You’ll have less competition because fewer people will be entering that exact phrase and there are fewer general phrases that could include that statement as it’s already a complete statement.
Using this type of low competition, targeted keyword will get you started correctly with the search engines. If you want to learn more about how to research keywords Download my free report called “The Keywords Blueprint”.

Thank You Imelda. I hope you enjoy reading the report.
Thanks for the article.
I’m trying to get started in this world of blogging, and I always have this question about long tail and short tail keywords. I didn’t quite understand how this relates to the competition.
Well now that I have read your article I am beginning to understand it a little more. Of course, the big players are not very interested in these words, therefore, they have less competition. But I also understand that our article is much more “accurate” if the person finds exactly what they are looking for on our site!
I would imagine that, following the example of abdominal fat burning, something like “fat burning techniques during office luncheon hours” would be a long tail keyword with little competition. This is so? Is it what I have understood?
I will continue to investigate, thank you very much for this explanation!
Regards
Jason
Absolutely Jason. Long tail keywords, being so specific are much more targeted and so much less competition. The only caveat is that you want to make sure there are at least some monthly searches for that particular keyword. Thanks for your comment.
