Of course, you are well aware that in any business, time is money. And blogging is your business. So the less time it takes for you to put your thoughts and ideas into a blog, the better.
One of the challenges every writer faces, is the time it takes to actually write. So the question is, how do you write faster? Is there a secret to writing quickly?
How do you write faster?
Well, I’d like to share with you a few tips that have helped me tremendously. These suggestions can help you to write more effectively and at the same time, create more time to enjoy your life. Yes, a writer, who understands these secrets can have his cake and eat it too!
Write out your key thoughts first
What I find very helpful in guiding this flow so that it is organized is writing my main point in the article ahead of time. This allows me to have total freedom to elaborate on each point to completion. This is all without the interference of my inner editor.
Your Inner Editor
All writers have an inner editor. You know, that little director in your head that tells you when something needs to be rephrased. Or, it tells you if what you’ve written needs to be re-written. It can be exasperating and time-consuming but that inner editor is the reason why you write readable content.
The inner editor is from the analytical part of your brain. You need this part of your writing skills if you want your blog to be taken seriously. in fact, editing your blog carefully and correctly can help your rank in search engine results. So, the bottom line is, you need to edit.
Your Creative Flow
This is the other aspect of your writing. This side is communicative. It expresses what comes from your heart and what you visualize in your mind. This creative side of your brain must be given unhindered free rein in order for you to gain your writing speed.
Here is where the conflict lies. While you’re expressing your thoughts in words, your creativity kicks in. The words just start to flow. But, after a couple of sentences, you find yourself stopping and re-writing your phrase.
This is your inner editor. This is what needs to be corrected if you want to gain speed in writing your articles. You need to temporarily stop your inner editor and give priority to your creative side.
In other words, write without corrections. Don’t worry about editing of re-writing. Just write!
Talk to your inner editor
Have a conversation with your inner editor. Make sure it is understands that you truly value what it contributes to your writing. But then make clear that the editor in you has to wait. Right now, first thing– the creative side must flow. AFTERWARDS you will need the editor. If you can get this type of cooperation between your inner editor and creative side, then you can make quicker progress in your writing.
Giving priority to your flow of creativity
When you let your creativity flow. And if you let your thoughts just flow through your fingers onto the keyboard and onto your computer screen, — something incredible and hard to explain happens. Your writing becomes more communicative, human, and heartfelt. Your writing becomes an expression of you.
This will actually improve the experience of the reader. It will be as if you are talking directly to them. Your blog will become easier to read.
Talk to yourself
I’m sure you’ve heard it said that if you talk to yourself, it’s a sign you’re going crazy. Well, perhaps that’s true in other areas of life. But I can tell you it’s NOT true with writing.
If you truly want to make progress writing, there is no way you can avoid talking to your self… or at least whispering to yourself while you write. It helps you to hear your thoughts and it helps you to organize them as you write.
So, go ahead… talk to yourself while you write. Don’t worry, it’s a true sign of a real professional 😉 (It will also speed up your writing).
Your Focusing Agent
Most writers have a focusing agent. A focusing agent is anything that helps you to focus creatively on your article as you write. Your focusing agent might be certain type of music. It may be a certain routine that will help you to get into the creative writing mood. It may be a certain location in the house. Whatever helps you to focus creatively is your focusing agent.
Once you are focused and the creative juices are flowing– DON’T STOP to rewrite of correct anything. Just write and let it flow.
Once I’m finished writing out my thoughts under each main point of the article, I invite my inner editor to go to work. Here is where you can actually read your work out loud. This is where you may want to adjust the wording or switch the paragraphs. You’ll want to check your spelling and grammar as well.
