It’s true that becoming a Blogger can result in freedom of time and freedom to work from anywhere. This is a freedom that few business opportunities offer. But, the reality is we will always need to keep a regular blogging schedule.
Why you need to have a blogging schedule
Imagine if you were an employee, and you came in to work when you had the free time, or when you felt like it. You wouldn’t last long on that job. Realistically, when you are employed, you have set hours to work. And they’re very strict about those hours.
What if you weren’t an employee, but ran your own business. For example, what if you owned your own coffee shop. How profitable would your business be if you only worked when you wanted to. What if you had no set time to open or close. That wouldn’t work very well, would it?
The same principle applies to owning a blog. You need to have a set schedule for blogging. And you need to keep as close as you can to that schedule.
Be realistic in your schedule
You need to be realistic in scheduling as well. It is better to blog once a week regularly and consistently, than to blog every day for the first two weeks, get burnt out, and then sporadically blog afterwards. There are very good reasons for keeping your blogging schedule regular.
Being consistent builds traffic
For one thing, it helps to build return traffic. It helps the visitors to know you will be writing regularly. They know what to expect and when to expect it. This builds trust. Because you stick to your blogging routine, visitors will know when to return and read new material. On the other hand, if you blog 3 times a week and they return 2 weeks in a row but you haven’t updated your blog, you will probably loose them as a visitor.
Imagine if you were watching a new series and the scheduled time was released for the show, but when you turned it on at that time, it wasn’t there. If that happened even once, the series would loose a lot of viewers. It’s the same with any other business. If they say they open at 9:00 AM. And the customer comes at 10:00 and they’re not open yet, they’ve probably lost that customer.
Being consistent improves our rank in the search engines
Blogging on a set schedule is also good for Google. They are able to see that you publish fresh content on a continual bases. If you’re regular with this, it will increase your ranking with the search engines.
Sticking to a schedule helps you blog
Having a set Blogging schedule is also vital for you. It allows you to schedule other things that support your blogging. For example, keyword research. You need to schedule time for this.
Also, research on your niche. You need to be at the front edge of your niche if you are going to come up with fresh content for your blog. So, whatever time you set aside to blog, make sure you have a blogging schedule and stick with it. If you do, you’ll see the benefits of eventually having an authority site which will generate a consistent flow of traffic.
